Joining the Nintendo Switch OLED club

So I am now the proud owner of a Nintendo Switch OLED, in the past month I have completed Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Metroid Dread and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle so I have become quite familiar with the system, which at its core, is quite basic and that is not necessarily a bad thing.

With all the controversy around the OLED version launch of the Switch I was hesitant to make the purchase at first but as a lifelong Nintendo fan and with the announcement of the Nintendo 64 games becoming available as part of their online membership service I just bit the bullet and ordered the white version for £309.99, which in my humble opinion is not bad at all considering the amount of time I have already spent having fun with it.

About those N64 games… they are terrible, they look like poorly ported versions so I have not played much of that library, on the positive side there is a rewind option that lets you go back quite a few frames of gameplay so you can basically reattempt a section of the game you might have F**ed up which is nice.

I will patiently wait for Golden Eye to be available for the Switch and give that a go as that title remains one of my top games of all times.

I was able to compare the screen quality against one of the original Switches and yeah, the OLED is WAAAAAY better so I’m very happy about it, that said I have connected the dock to my gaming monitor so I do get the best of both worlds as well as being able to record and stream gameplay if I want to do so.

I read some concerns about performance and of the three games that I have played so far, only Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle has froze or completely closed the software a couple of times, the other two games did not flinch even in the busiest of battles where there is a lot going on.

The Joy-Con controllers battery last forever or about 20 hrs in real life duration, I will be looking at purchasing a second set just in case the original break or for those extreme marathon game days, they are not cheap at around £70 -£80 but it is what it is with these accessories, I am waiting for the red ones to be back in stock.

I am about to start the Donkey Kong expansion for Mario + Rabbids and then I might jump back on Metroid Dread to complete the Hard mode version of the campaign.

If you are thinking of getting a Switch or gifting one for Christmas do go for it! Hours of fun guaranteed =)
